PRODUCTION PROCESS

Orthopedic shoes: how are they made?

Orthopedic shoes are specially made to order. So you can't just buy them in the store. But how are they made? Continue reading to find out exactly what goes into manufacturing an orthopedic shoe.

1. First, the client’s feet are properly and carefully sized. Based on the client’s measurements, we start producing lasts and footbeds,

2. before drawing the patterns for the shaft.
3. These patterns are placed on top of the leather, to make sure that the leather is cut properly. We repeat this process for the liner as well as the upper.

4. In the stitching shop, the patterned parts are assembled into a shaft, along with other parts such as eyelets for laces and, for example, soft padding.

5. After making the upper, we continue with the lower part of the shoe, starting with the insole, the welt and the heel.

6. The insole is placed under the last so that the shaft can be fixed. Now it is time to start work on the liner, which is pulled around the last and pinned in place. At this stage, any aids needed to reinforce the ankle are glued to the liner.

7. The next step is to add the outside of the shaft: the upper.

8. After the shaft has been assembled, we sand down the base of the shoe, so that we can start building the sole.

9. We start with the welt and a layer of EVA material, which can be shaped to improve the wearer’s foot strike. Next, the heel is glued in place, as well as the outsole.

10. The shoe is now almost ready to be shipped, but not before we give it a beautiful finish.

11. The final step before shipping is a thorough check, in which we carefully inspect the shoe from all angles. When we’re satisfied that everything about the shoe is as good as can be, it’s time for shipping!
